MV-65 Form Now Accessible at BMV

Antique Autos and Motorcycles See Expanded Opportunities

Maine residents seeking to register their antique autos or motorcycles now have an expanded range of options. Previously only available online, the MV-65 form is now available at all Branch offices of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). This change provides greater convenience and accessibility for individuals looking to register their classic vehicles.

In addition to the form's availability at BMV branch offices, antique motorcycles are no longer restricted from being used as the owner's primary mode of transportation. This change allows owners to enjoy their cherished vehicles more fully, while still maintaining their antique status.

For antique autos registered under section 457, the allowed operational radius has been expanded to 20 miles. This provides owners with greater flexibility in using their vehicles for local trips and events.

The Secretary of State may also issue hobbyist registrations for individuals who use a designated area to store, restore, or display their antique autos, motorcycles, or classic vehicles.

These changes are aimed at supporting and preserving Maine's rich automotive heritage. By making the registration process more accessible and allowing for greater use of antique vehicles, the state is ensuring that these treasured pieces of history remain a vibrant part of the transportation landscape.
